What is Child Dedication?
// In general, there are probably three motivating factors behind child dedication:
- For many it is a substitute for a tradition picked up from churches that baptize children.
- Often it is motivated by a genuine desire to begin a child’s life the best way possible, with the hope that the ceremony will influence the rest of his or her life.
- Finally, there is a desire to involve the church—the extended family of the follower of Christ—in the spiritual life of the child and his family.
SCF does not believe in infant baptism in any form, and therefore does not believe that child dedication should be practiced if it is equated with infant baptism.
